- Extensively raced in period in Mexico and South America
- Retaining its period paint finish dating to 1974
- Mechanically restored to FIA Group 2 specifications
- Fascinating early racing history

The fascinating 1966 Mustang offered here was a privateer racing car when new, based out of Toluca, Mexico, powered by a 289 V8, sponsored by Shelby de Mexico and race-prepped with a number of Shelby American parts. It was actively campaigned between 1966 and 1970 in FIA-sanctioned road races in Mexico and South America, events quite similar to those of North America’s SCCA Trans-Am racing series. Events and venues included the Toluca and Leon Guanajuato races, Valle de Bravo Chaves, Acapulco, Guadalajara and the Magdalena Mixhuca Circuit de Mexico. Between 1971 and 1974, the Mustang used a 351 Windsor V8 and competed in Mexican Libre events.

Many years later, the Mustang was thoroughly restored and upgraded for vintage racing to 1966 SCCA A-Sedan specifications, with a number of period-correct Shelby high-performance upgrades and work executed in accordance with FIA Group 2 regulations. The work primarily included a new race-prepped 289 V8 engine and transmission, as well as the suspension, interior and more. The exterior was not repainted, and today, it continues to feature the same finish as when it was last raced in period during 1974.

Between 2002 and 2008, the Mustang was campaigned in vintage racing events throughout the Midwest, at such locations and events as the Blackhawk Classic and at Elkhart Lake, as well as the Meadow Brook and Waterford Hills Historics. All racing preparations were faithfully performed with attention to period correctness. The Mustang is complete with a letter written by a crewmember of its original racing team, describing its early history. A racecar from new and a highly competitive vintage racer today, this 1966 Mustang carries a fascinating provenance and continues to display the brilliant competition prowess of the first-generation Mustang.
