FT. LAUDERDALE - Florida (February 28, 2006) – Despite the dip in temperatures, a record number of classic car enthusiasts from across North America descended on the polo field in Boca Raton to see, hear and buy over 400 exceptional classic automobiles that crossed the block. The annual Boca Raton Collector Car Auction was held at the Royal Palm Polo Grounds in Boca Raton, Florida, February 10 -12, 2006. “Boca has been good for us. We are very pleased with this year’s record setting event and will keep building on this success,” says Donnie Gould, of RM Classic Cars. The top seller was a magnificent 1929 Duesenberg Model J Murphy Convertible Coupe that crossed the block at $845,300. Another star of the show was the elegant 1956 Cadillac Eldorado Brougham Experimental Motorama Town Car. Saved from the crusher in the 1960’s and restored to its original beauty, the car brought in $781,100. Riding the wave of interest in the muscle car market was one of the rarest and most desirable muscle cars in the world – a 1970 Pontiac GTO Judge Ram-Air IV Convertible. Rumored to be the only black model ever built – this car sold for $410,000. Also in the six-figure sales was an orginal 1965 AC Cobra Dragonsnake Roadster that took in $695,500 and a more affordable 1965 AC Cobra 289 Roadster that reached a final sale at $342,400. Another Caroll Shelby designed automobile owned by the man himself – a 1968 Shelby GT500 KR Convertible drew a final bid of $208,650. Following the Boca Raton Collector Car Auction, RM Auctions will host an important sale of nearly 100 of the world’s rarest and most desirable collector cars at the “Vintage Motor Cars at Amelia Island” event, on March 11, 2006 at the elegant Ritz-Carlton Hotel on Amelia Island, located just north of Jacksonville, Florida.
