RM AUCTIONS ROUNDS OUT 2009 WITH IMPRESSIVE RESULTS IN LONDON

RM Auctions concluded its 2009 auction season on a high note in London on 28th October, posting £11 million in total sales with a strong 87% of all lots sold at the third-annual ‘Automobiles of London’ event.

Attracting strong international interest from bidders in the room, on the phone and over the internet, the single-day sale interestingly saw cars offered from 11 countries selling to buyers hailing from a different set of 11 countries.

The star attraction was a historic 1950 Aston Martin DB2 Team Car ‘VMF 64’ with Le Mans and Mille Miglia provenance, offered for the first time in 52 years and selling for £550,000 to set a new world record for an Aston Martin DB2 sold at auction.

The top seller of the night was a 2006 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Roadster, the only right-hand drive example built, for £616,000. An equally rare 2005 Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR Coupé achieved an impressive £522,500, while a beautiful 1929 Alfa Romeo 6C 1750 GS went for the same amount. Rounding out the top five sales was a 1914 Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Boat-Tail Skiff selling for £473,000.

Another highlight of the evening was the sale of the second part of the distinguished Edgar Schermerhorn Collection, featuring an impressive selection of memorabilia and coach built motor cars. The collection, headlined by a 1938 Bugatti Type 57C Stelvio selling for £440,000, achieved £1.5 million.

Overall, 13 lots exceeded their high estimates, most notably a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 600 Pullman Landaulet in original, unrestored condition, that went for nearly five times its original high estimate of £60,000 to sell for a remarkable £308,000.
