FAMOUS “LITTLE RED WAGON” WHEELSTANDER EARNS TOP HONORS AT RM’S ICONS OF SPEED & STYLE AUCTION

RM’s recent Icons of Speed & Style auction held in Los Angeles at the famed Petersen Automotive Museum featured some of the most unique and recognizable cars that have helped define the sport and culture of drag racing. The “Little Red Wagon” – a 1965 Dodge A100 Pickup Truck – was the top transaction of the day, garnering $550,000 on the block and almost doubling its pre-auction high estimate. The “Little Red Wagon” was famously campaigned by Bill “Maverick” Golden, running the quarter-mile with the wheels up in the mid 11-second range and becoming drag racing’s first full-time exhibition act, thrilling crowds for nearly 40 years.

Another notable legend in the drag racing world, the instantly-recognizable 1965 Dodge Deora Concept Car, reached $324,500 and was sold to rousing applause by an enthusiastic audience. Designed by Harry Bradley and built by the Detroit-based Alexander Brothers, the Deora was immortalized by Mattel and remains the highest-selling ‘Hot Wheels’ of all time.

Bringing in a total of $6,905,952, this private, single-owner collection was made up of 80 historic vehicles and 70 lots of memorabilia and attracted a standing-room-only crowd. With many cars selling within their pre-auction estimates and others selling for more than anticipated, this was yet another successful event to further solidify RM Auctions’ position as the premier auction house for vintage and historic automobiles.
