How to Sell
The consignment process at RM Auctions is designed with you – our client – in mind. The most difficult part of selling a car with RM is the initial decision to part with your prized motor car or collection: we take over from there and work with you every step of the way.
These are the steps you will need to take to consign and sell a car with RM Auctions:
- Contact an RM representative. All of our RM representatives are Car Specialists who are fully immersed in the collector car hobby, meaning they have the passion, knowledge and experience that is needed to successfully market your automobile to an international network of buyers.
- Discuss what automobile(s) you would like to sell with your dedicated Car Specialist. This discussion will address the following matters:
- the specifics of your car in order to arrive at a reasonable market value and, should you choose, a reserve price,
- what auction venue (as we have many) will be the best fit for you and your automobile(s), and
- the information you will need to provide us with to properly market your automobile(s). This usually includes a detailed description of a car’s condition, provenance, racing and/or award history, and a briefing on any restoration or modification the car has undergone. We also require quality photography of each car, the details of which your Car Specialist will discuss with you.
- Agree to RM’s Terms and Conditions of sale. Any questions regarding these conditions or any other concerns you may have can be answered by your Car Specialist. Once you have remitted the entry fee and taken care of any necessary paperwork (DMV/MTO/etc.), you will begin to see our world-class marketing and advertising campaigns being put to work for your benefit.
- Enjoy the auction. As a consignor, your presence at the sale is encouraged and welcomed, and you will be provided with complementary admission and bidder registration to the event. We do our best to put on an auction that is as entertaining as it is results-driven, and we have preferred rates at hotels that we share with our clients. Our Client Services team also often coordinates VIP tours and activities exclusively for RM clients. Once the auction is over and a successful bidder has purchased your automobile, you will receive a check or wire transfer within twenty-one business days.
