One of the last Ferraris engineered and launched during Enzo Ferrari's lifetime, the 328 succeeded the highly popular 308 four-cam by offering an increased displacement V-8 and a myriad of detail changes throughout. The mid-engined 328, offered in both hardtop (GTB) and Targa/Spider (GTS) forms, featured an uprated 3.2-liter V-8 putting out 270 horsepower, thanks to a sophisticated Marelli electronic ignition system and the retained Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection. Capable of a 0–60 sprint of 5.9 seconds, the 328 GTS had a top speed of 163 mph. Assembled in Maranello until the fall of 1989, the 328 is considered by many to be among the most drivable vintage Ferraris, thanks to its solid performance and general reliability. It is most coveted by collectors because of its ABS brake system, which was not offered on prior years.

The 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS offered here is among the last produced, and thus, benefits from a handful of changes made during its production run. As a true time capsule, it has been hidden away for more than two decades, not seeing the light of day. This U.S. model Ferrari was purchased new at Kessler Motors, in New York, on June 16, 1989. It had 99 delivery miles from the factory while in the show room. The car was taken by flatbed to a climate-controlled New York garage where it was to join a growing collection of vintage Italian sport cars. It was started and looked after but never moved from its resting place, until being discovered in February of 2012. When inspected, the odometer showed 105 miles, and the condition was immaculate. The climate-controlled storage preserved the car in faultless showroom condition. The factory applied Cosmoline, which was sprayed on at Maranello to protect it during shipping and can still be found on the 328’s underside. This car has a very rare factory option of red carpet and comes with the original toolkit, roadside kit, spare tire and wheel, a clean CARFAX history report, 2012 major service records, and copy of the original 1989 title. Even the newspaper article from June of 1989, which was being used as a floor mat protector, is included with the car. The recent service, conducted in June 2012, was a complete $30,000 update, which included the timing belts, hoses and fuel pump, and check of the brakes, clutch, and transmission. The car is ready to drive and enjoy.

The 1989 Ferrari 328 GTS models are becoming extremely desirable among collectors, and great ones are difficult to find. Never having needed any restoration work, this 328 GTS shows as-new both inside and out, where it is essentially devoid of age-related patina. This 328GTS is an extraordinary example of preservation and resurrection. Soon, restoration experts will begin saving 1980s era Ferraris, and this example may serve as the template for all to learn from.
