Following the war, Ford, like all manufacturers, rushed its pre-war models into production to meet the pent up demand for both replacement vehicles and to fill the huge demand created by an affluent and vastly expanded market.

The new Ford F-1 introduced in 1949 was freshly restyled but still very much a pre-war vehicle under the skin. Consumers would have to wait until 1953 for Ford to introduce the first all new post-war truck. This delay was a result of Ford placing first priority on modernizing its automobile lines. After this was complete, Ford turned its attention to the pickup with a four year, $30,000,000 development program that in 1953 produced an all-new Ford pickup, the F100.

Completely restyled, with a one-piece curved windshield and distinctive wide grille, the F100 set a standard in light duty trucks that the consumer public was quick to recognize and would ultimately result in the F100 nameplate becoming one of the longest-lived in American consumer vehicle history. Its name is recalled today, almost half a century later, in the current Ford pickups, which have grown slightly in size, a lot in features and even more in price to earn the name F150.

The truck offered here is a superbly restored example of the F100’s fourth year, 1956, with a wraparound windshield. Using new old stock Ford parts wherever possible the truck shows a meticulous attention paid to colors, material selection and presentation for authenticity. It has won several national first place awards, earning the recognition of its peers for its quality and appearance. Offered with the workhorse eight-cylinder engine introduced in 1955 and an optional four-speed manual transmission, the F100 bears so many factory accessories that it must have exhausted the options list. These include a factory style radio and a roof-mounted speaker in the cab, two-tone upholstery, a heater, an oak bed, and a rear bumper with a stainless steel exhaust deflector. The abundant brightwork includes stainless windshield molding, hubcaps and wheel trim rings, chrome mirrors, grille and step plates.

Every car collector deserves, at least once, to own a good American pickup. They have a uniform effect upon everyone who sees them, gaining smiles and waves from onlookers of all ages. Truck restorations of this caliber are as expensive and time consuming as automobile restorations. As such, this superbly restored 1956 Ford F100 pickup will prove to be a great value for the lucky purchaser, who can begin enjoying it immediately.
